The district’s economy is driven by Small and Medium Industries (SMEs), centered in Kamunting, while Matang is known for its Mangrove Industry and aquaculture products.

These areas have the potential to be developed as district icons — with Kamunting positioned as the Smart SME Hub of Perak, and Matang recognized internationally for its charcoal wood supply industry.

This district is also part of the Global Royal Tourism Corridor and the Malaysia TVET Corridor.
