No. | KEY CHALLENGES | SUMMARY |
---|---|---|
1. | Migration | Over the past decade, net migration has been negative, with more people leaving the state than moving in. This trend is concerning, particularly regarding its effects on the state's human capital needs. |
2. | Low-Income Household Group (Lowest 40%) (B40) | Perak has the highest percentage of B40 households among all states in Malaysia. The state government must ensure that this group is not marginalized in the development process and that they continue to enjoy a sustainable quality of life despite the rising cost of living. |
3. | Ageing Population | In 2010, 7.7 percent of Perak's population was aged 65 years and older. This figure is projected to rise to 11 percent of the estimated 2.51 million population by 2020, which is higher than the national average of 6.73 percent in Malaysia. Consequently, the state of Perak needs to be prepared to address the challenges associated with an increasing elderly population. |
4. | Readiness to Face the Digital Era | A study conducted by the Darul Ridzuan Institute (IDR) examined the availability of big data among state agencies in Perak. The findings revealed that only 47 percent of officers possess skills related to Big Data Analytics. Additionally, just 27 percent of organizations are adequately prepared in terms of resource allocation. This indicates that awareness of big data availability among organizations in Perak remains relatively low. |
