IPOH: Plans to develop a water treatment plant in north Perak will likely be sped up following yesterday’s announcement that Perak will supply water to Penang through the proposed Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park.

Menteri besar Saarani Mohamad said the state government welcomed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement, noting that Perak had previously sought an allocation from the federal government to build a water treatment plant after Penang expressed interest in purchasing treated water.

“We expected this project to be carried out later, but what the prime minister announced was a good step and, indirectly, the construction of the water treatment plant can be expedited,” he told reporters at the 2024 Adilfitri open house at the Perak Darul Ridzuan building here today.

Separately, on reports that some Perak land and mines office staff were on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s radar, Saarani said he left it to the anti-graft agency to investigate any complaints related to the department.

“The state government will leave it to the authorities to conduct their investigation and will not interfere,” he said, adding that the state government had made changes to state land administration, including the introduction of e-tanah.

In 2012, a former deputy registrar with the office was charged with cheating the Perak agricultural land board, resulting in the improper subdivision of Malay reserve land spanning approximately 649.2ha.
