IPOH: An additional RM2mil has been allocated for local councils in Perak, says Nga Kor Ming.
The Local Government Development Minister said from the total, RM1mil will be given to the Ipoh City Council.
“After a meeting with Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, I have agreed to approve the additional allocation which will be used to replace street lamps around the city,” he said to reporters after officiating the re-opening of the Panggong Silver Star and lantern festival in Kampung Simee here on Sunday (Sept 24).
Earlier in September, Sinar Harian reported that the ministry had approved RM68mil for 15 local councils in Perak, the largest allocation made by the ministry.
“In conjunction with the lantern festival, we held five programmes in Ipoh which attracted an estimated total of 15,000 attendees.
“I recently met with Perak tourism committee chairman Loh Sze Yee, and he told me that in line with Perak Visit Year 2024, the state will organise a large lantern festival which will be featured in Perak’s tourism calendar,” said Nga, who is also Kepayang assemblyman.
He added that nearly 2,000 people attended the event in Kampung Simee.
