IPOH: Discussions will be held on whether there is a need to replace the wall-mounted ceramic cisterns at SK Perpaduan with ones made of PVC, says Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad.

The Hulu Kinta assemblyman said he would discuss the matter with the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of the pupils at the school.

“The Public Works Department (JKR) had suggested fully securing the mount of the existing cisterns.

“The JKR says it is safe to secure up the cisterns but we will discuss again, to determine which one is safer,” he said after visiting the school in Tambun on Friday (July 21).

On Tuesday (July 18), a ceramic cistern fell on a Year Three pupil’s head and shoulder.

The incident is said to have occurred at the toilet on the third floor of the school at about 4.30pm.

Muhamad Arafat said all the toilets for the pupils at the school are closed for now.

“The pupils are to use the teachers’ toilet,” he said, adding that the cisterns at the teachers’ toilet were made from PVC.

He also said that the affected pupil would be given some aid and counselling.
