A 9-year-old primary school student in Ipoh, Perak recently suffered injuries to her head after a toilet cistern was dislodged from its mounting and crashed onto her head at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Perpaduan

The Year 3 pupil was struck by the ceramic tank while she was flushing the toilet after use.

While an X-ray examination found no serious injuries to the pupil, Nur Alisha Adawiyah Mohd Yusri, she has since been traumatised by the incident and until now, she will ask her classmate to accompany her whenever she needed to go to the toilet.

As reported by BERNAMA, the girl reported the incident to the teacher and was taken by the school to her mother, before being taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for treatment.

Perak State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah took notice of the incident and has since ordered the school to periodically monitor and ensure toilet facilities are always in good condition.

In a follow-up report, Nur Alisha shared with reporters,

“Now I’m scared to go to the toilet at school because I’m afraid it will happen again.”

The girl’s mother, Nor Azizawati Ismail, 37, lodged a police report at the Tambun police station at 7 pm yesterday (20 July) regarding the incident and for the safety of her daughter.

She recalled when the incident happened to her daughter,

“I remember that she was crying then. She has swelling on the left of her head. She is still experiencing pain until now. I sincerely hope no other student will be affected by such an incident.”

Subsequent to the incident, Hulu Kinta assemblyman Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad who met with the student and her mother said that the Ministry of Education (MOH) will provide counselling to the student soon to help her cope with the trauma.

Arafat further asserted that the student toilets at the school were only allowed to use the teachers’ lavatories. He has also been in contact with MOH regarding several things, including an insurance scheme in relation to the incident.

The Tambun Parliamentary and the state constituency community service centres also presented donations to the student today.
